Books that
change form.

Metamorphic Publishing Incorporated — an independent press publishing transformative fiction, poetry, and non-fiction from the edge of the Atlantic.

A note from the press

Metamorphic is a geological word. It describes what happens to a thing under pressure — how it changes, layer by layer, into something new.

That's what we publish: writing that has been under pressure. Work that doesn't just describe transformation, but performs it on the page.

The catalogue

Fiction. Poetry. Essays. Memoir. Work that resists category and rewards attention.

Small print runs. Careful design. Books made to be kept.

I

A press for work that refuses to stay the same.

Metamorphic Publishing Incorporated is a small, independent press based in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. We publish a deliberately limited list — a handful of titles a year — with an emphasis on writing that transforms: fiction that unsettles, poetry that reconfigures, essays that change the shape of an argument.

We believe in the book as an object. Every title is designed with the same care we ask of our authors: attention to typography, to pacing, to the physical experience of reading. We are not in a hurry, and we are not trying to scale.

Under pressure, the ordinary becomes something else. That is what we publish.

II

The catalogue.

A selection of forthcoming and recent titles. Each one is a study in transformation — of form, of voice, of the thing being described.

Literary Fiction

The Pressure Layer

A novel of the Acadian shore

A family narrative told across three generations, in which the landscape itself becomes a character under pressure.

Poetry

Gneiss

Poems on inheritance and erosion

Short, crystalline poems about what remains after the slow grinding of time — family, language, stone.

Essays

Under the Surface

On reading, attention, and change

A collection of essays on what books do to us, and what we owe them in return.

Memoir

Metamorphic

A life in layers

A memoir structured like a geological core sample — each chapter a deeper stratum of memory and meaning.

Short Fiction

Fault Lines

Stories of rupture and repair

Eleven stories about the moments when the ground shifts, and what people do when it does.

Non-fiction

The Slow Form

On making things that last

An argument for craft, patience, and the value of work that resists acceleration.

A book is a form of pressure. You apply it to a reader, slowly, until something changes.
